Plastic Bag Ban Not a Priority

By Susan Gager

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Paper or plastic? It's a choice you get to keep at checkout stands for a little while at least.

Senator Mark Hass of Beaverton says he couldn't get the support needed for his proposed ban on plastic bags statewide. Although, Senator Jackie Dinfelder of Portland says the plastic ba ban is likely to show up in legislative session again.

Plastic bags are known by recyclers as machine jamming irritants and bad news for the environment while other shoppers think they're just simply useful.

Some shoppers say they're disappointed the ban isn't a priority for this legislative session. However, some grocery stores are already following the trend towards using paper bags only.
