EUGENE, Ore.--Valentine's day is known as the day of love. Many flower shops and bakeries are gearing up for this weekend's holiday rush. Which also brings with it a boost in business.
Sweet Lifes' Co-Owner said Valentine's day is their biggest day of the year for their business. Inside the Sweet Life kitchen, staff cook up and prep some of their most popular treats. The owner says it takes 2,400 eggs, 200 lbs. of butter, 500 lbs. of sugar and chocolate to pull off this weekend's goodies.
Many of Sweet Life's year around desserts are already geared towards Valentine's day. So when February hits staff double up quantities, use heart shaped pans, and add more shades of pink and red.
"It's really the best time because you know. You see people coming in ... kids and adults, they're all so happy to be there. Valentine's day is sort of that extra added bonus." Co-Owner of Sweet LifeCatherine Reinhart said.
Valentine's day is also a busy time for flower shops. Across town, at Eugene's Flower Home, they've been making floral deliveries since Tuesday. The owner says 80% of their business happens during the holidays, which is about 20% of the year.
Both shops suggest if you want a special order, get it in early to make sure its ready by Sunday.
