Cottage Grove Educator Accused of Secret Video Taping

By Dan Corcoran

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- A local elementary school employee faces accusations that he video taped his female co-workers while they changed their clothes.

Cottage Grove Police say the secret recordings took place over the past couple of weeks at Bohemia Elementary School.

Police charged 44-year-old Robert Mead of Yoncalla, with three counts of interception of communications, for the January 29th and February 2nd recordings.  Both recordings took place in a bathroom in the school's nurse's station.

The second recording was stopped by one of the victims.  Police say they found evidence that showed the camera was Mead's.

The victims never took off all of their clothes and no children were ever depicted on any of the video clips.

Corp. Scott Shepherd with the Cottage Grove Police Department said, "There's no way to verify it was two times or more. We're hoping that it was just the two times and it was an error in judgment."

The South Lane School District put Mead on administrative leave last week, he gave officials a letter of resignation on Friday.

Each of Robert Mead's three interception of communications charges come with up to a $5,000 fine and up to a year in jail.

Mead is due back in court on February 25th.
