Toddler Killed While in Stroller on Highway 99

Near CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A Tangent is toddler is dead after being struck by a semi while being pushed in a stroller across a Corvallis highway by his mother.

 

The accident happened just after 10 a.m. on Monday. Oregon State Police say Courtney Ayer was pushing her 2 1/2-year-old son Dylan in a jogging stroller through the intersection of Highway 99 and Old Highway 34.

 

Troopers say the truck driver, Marcus Coulter stopped at the signal then tried to turn from 34 onto 99. That's when he hit the stroller.

 

"Well when it first happened I saw her run by this way. Next thing you know I look out the window because I hear screaming, and she was jumping up and down in the intersection," said Troy Ryzek, who witnessed the crash.

 

"It's not a good morning. A lot of the emergency responders are having a pretty hard time. A lot of us have small childre, and it's not an easy thing to deal with. We have a job to do and we will do it, and we will deal with the aftermath later," said Oregon State Police Lt. Mark Cotter.
