EUGENE, Ore. -- It's being called "The Civil War for the Roses" and local flower shops are benefitting from the moniker. "I think this week is getting in the game spirit. This is a historic time when one of these two teams is going to the Rose Bowl so it's an opportunity to show your best, true spirit," says Danelions Flowers Owner, Shirley Lyons.
Dandelions Flowers has 1,200 extra roses on hand for the week. There are yellow roses for Duck fans, and orange roses for Beaver Believers. They also have dozens of red roses, which they'll sell on game day for $2.00 a piece. Proceeds will benefit Sheltercare.
On Monday, Beaver fan Greg Lyons sent his staff a big bouquet of orange flowers, despite the fact most of his co-workers are Ducks.
"I got the flowers because in this office we have a lot of Oregon fans and I thought it would be a fun thing to have here on the counter to remind people we're not the only team in the state of Oregon," says Lyons.
His wife Haley, who is also a Beaver swimming in a pond full of Ducks, also sent an outrageous orange bouquet to her office. "Given the Rose Bowl ramifications I thought it was only appropriate to decorate the office," says Haley Lyons. And her co-worker, Tenille Woodward, counters, "But in the wrong colors."
