Eugene Police Patrol Delta-Beltline Interchange

By Heather Hintze

EUGENE, Ore. -- If you drove the Delta-Beltline interchange this afternoon, you may have noticed a large police presence. It's all part of an effort to make the area safer for drivers.

Eight officers from the traffic enforcement unit were at the interchange, looking for drivers who were speeding, or making unlawful lane changes. One by one, cars were pulled over for various offenses.

Officers say they targeted that area because the Delta-Beltline interchange is notorious for having a high number of traffic accidents -- in part because of the outdated design.

Officers believe most car accidents in that area are caused by speeding or following too closely. They say today's saturation patrol was to remind people to drive safely, especially during the holiday season.
