"Pasedena" Civil War Shirts Corrected

By Heather Hintze

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Within hours of victories by Oregon and Oregon State, brand new Civil War shirts hit store shelves Sunday.

But they were already gone Monday. That's not because they were such a hit. It's because of a major misspelling.

The design for the "Road to Pasadena" shirts was seen by nearly a dozen people and approved by the Collegiate Licensing Committee, and no one noticed "Pasadena" was spelled wrong.

Monday morning, Sew On employees had to reprint the black screen with the correct spelling. The yellow screen also had to be redone to match up the stripes on the road design. Sew On reprinted 500 shirts to replace Sunday's order and then printed another 800.

The grey, misspelled shirts will be sent overseas to the troops so they can support their home teams. The new shirts are white so people won't get confused over which was misspelled.

The Duck Store at the UO campus was selling the misspelled shirts at 50 percent off to people who didn't want to wait for the new ones.

If you bought one of the grey shirts Sunday, the Duck Store says you can come in and exchange it for a white one, or get a refund.
