New Details in Coquille Shooting Case

By Heather Hintze

COOS BAY, Ore. -- A Coquille woman remains in critical condition in a Portland hospital on Thursday, after police say she was shot by her estranged husband in downtown Coos Bay.

Authorities say 22-year-old Ashley Kendall was visiting her divorce attorney on Commerical Street on Tuesday evening. While Ashley was meeting with the attorney, Travis hid inside Ashley's vehicle. After Ashley drove off, still unaware that Travis was in the car, the attorney got in her car and followed Ashley to make sure there were no incidents.

As the cars turned onto Koos Bay Boulevard, Ashley's car came to an abrupt stop. The attorney reports seeing the driver's side door open and Ashley falling from the car onto the road, and then the car sped off. The attorney began to give her first aid while another nearby citizen called 911.

Police say Kendall led police on a chase ending at his home in Myrtle Point. Kendall pointed a long gun at the officer, which forced the officer to fire at Kendall. Police say Kendall was hit by the officer's shots, but they say he was found dead in the home from a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head.

Ashley Kendall was life flighted to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland where she remains in critical condition.
