11/19/09 Mt Bachelor
Mt. Bachelor announces a slight change of plan for opening day. It's still planning to open Friday, but it will be at NOON, not 9 a.m. The current mid-mountain forecast shows winds gusting around 70 mph overnight and Friday morning. They start to relax a bit by midday into the 30 mph sustained and gusts to 50 range.
Alex Kaufman with Mt. Bachelor says "It's not a preferred type of day to open a season on, but we think this noon plan is our best bet to get started. We also have no interest in crowds of rabid skiers showing up early just to see "wind hold" (not fun for anyone). So noon is the plan Friday. We still plan to go at 9 a.m. Saturday."
Expect early season conditions on Friday along with harsh weather. The groomers will be best. The will be "track packed" not corduroy to preserve snow depth.
The mountains new uphill access policy goes into effect tonight. So starting Friday it's the cone only for hikers. Click here for more info.
You will also see Skyliner spinning at times on Friday. It is not open, it is undergoing prep work. Mt. Bachelor hopes to open it Saturday. The West Village Getback will be your lowest point to return to a lift Friday.
Opening day rates will be based upon the $39 Adult HALF DAY RATE.
