SALEM, Ore. - New numbers from the Oregon Department on Administrative Services show state public employees will earn almost $900 more this year despite working 10 fewer days.

In 2008 the average public employee union member received compensation of $68,131 per year in salary and benefits. In 2009, the same employee will take home $69,028 in compensation, even after $2,700 has been deducted for furlough days.

During the last budget cycle, public employees received pay increases that will cost taxpayers $248 million over the next two years.
