The Trouble with Leaves

By Dan Corcoran

NORTH EUGENE, Ore. -- It was tough to sleep Monday night with strong winds whipping through most of Western Oregon.

Those winds helped cause minor flooding in some parts. That's in large part because of leaves that were suddenly everywhere, but there are ways to keep those leaves from doing what they did Monday night.

So what do you do? The easy solution is your yard debris container or toss them in a compost heap or any other similar fenced-in area.

If the street is your only option, avoid the gutter and the bike lane. That blob can act like a dam and cause flooding. More of those winds are expected to come again, so you may want to hold off on rounding up those leaves until it's closer to when they can be picked up.
