More Gusty Winds For Coastal Residents

By Gia Vang

FLORENCE, Ore. -- Residents were still out on the North Jetty beaches Tuesday despite the gusty winds and heavy rain early in the morning.

Windy weather hit the Oregon coast the hardest Monday. Yet Florence residents say they're used to the unpredictable weather.

"It seems like when we have hurricanes back east at 70 miles per hour, they're all concerned, but we get a lot of that here on the coast," resident Joe Henry said.

Another resident Bob Kessel said he hardly even noticed.

Kessel said "We had a lot of bad weather north and a lot of bad weather south, but right here I was out and working in my yard yesterday and it was pretty nice."

But BM2 U.S. Coast Guard Andrew Sadler said they expect more gusts Tuesday night.

"We are expecting gust up to 55 knots for the next 24 hours. We're still expecting seas at excess of 20 feet," he said.

Sadler said the coast guard urges residents to stay inside and avoid being on the water. So far, they've reported no incidents when wind gusts hit up to 60 miles per hour.
