EUGENE, Ore. -- One dog is dead after a home went up in flames Thursday. Crews got the call around 5 p.m. to a home on Friendly Street near W. 26th Street.
Eugene District Fire Chief Mark Grover said no one was home when the fire began. Grover said neighbors reported seeing the flames and called 911.
Jacob Hoertkorn said he was walking to the market when he saw the flames.
"There was just this big cloud of smoke, I'm like, that can't be someone's chimney. So I walked back here and then there's like two other people here, and I got them to call the fire department," he said.
Grover said the cause of the fire is unknown, and he said an investigation continues.
