EUGENE, Ore.-- Five hundred students at Buena Vista Elementary School spent their day stacking and un-stacking hundreds of little plastic cups, all in an attempt to help break a world record.

The event was part of the World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) Stack-Up. The goal was to have 250,000 people around the world stacking cups, breaking last year's record of more than 222,000 people.

The final number for the Stack Up will be tallied in the next couple of days. Right now, there are only about 58,000 confirmed stackers.

According to the official website of the WSSA, sport stacking (an event in which participants stack a number of cups into specific formations, then un-stack them, all in as little time as possible) is a sport that "not only develops important physical skills, such as hand-eye coordination, quickness and focus; it also promotes self-confidence, teamwork and good sportsmanship."
