MEDFORD, Ore. - More people are purchasing discounted plane tickets in Southern Oregon.
The Rogue Valley International Airport reports that the number of Allegiant passengers has increased dramatically, thanks in part to adding two new destinations. Allegiant reported a 137 percent increase in passengers this October compared to the same month last year.
Meanwhile, United Express saw around a seven percent decrease and Delta an 11 percent decrease during the same period.
"It's been positive because it stimulates competition, their a low cost carrier they're a unique carrier because they don't fly every day of the week but that works good and its a larger aircraft," Airport Director Bern Case said.
Mondays and Fridays are the biggest travel days at the airport.
Allegiant is the only airline that offers direct flights to Las Vegas and Phoenix.
Overall this year the airport has seen a slight decrease in passengers.
