EUGENE, Ore.-- Luper Cemetery, which was vandalized in October, is one of 19 across the state to receive funding from the Historic Cemeteries Program Grants through Oregon Parks and Recreation.

Volunteer Sharon Olson applied for the grant months before the vandalism happened.

The $4,000 will be used to hire a contractor to teach volunteers how to reset and restore damaged and weathered headstones.

The Historic Cemeteries Program will spread $41,000 of lottery money throughout the state.  Since 2004, they've awarded $216,000 for 135 cemetery projects.

Luper Cemetery will also host a vegetation cleanup on November 21 from 9am to noon.  Anyone who has free time is encouraged to volunteer.
