Same-Sex Marriage Discussion Continues in Eugene

By Jeff Skrzypek

EUGENE, Ore. -- Advocates for same-sex marriage are currently touring the state, hoping to drum up enough support to get the issue back on the ballot in 2012.

Evan Wolfson, one of America's leading advocates for gay marriage, was in Eugene on Wednesday to speak at a pair of events. Eugene was the last stop on Wolfson's three-city tour organized by Basic Rights Oregon. Organizers say that when it comes to same-sex marriage, they expect Oregon to set an example for equality.

Tour officials say they just want people to start talking to each other and become more familiar with how the community feels about same-sex marriage. Basic Rights Oregon wrapped up the tour Wednesday evening with a discussion at the Downtown Public Library.

Same Sex Marriage

Politially, how is it fair to grant rights to some citizens that you don't give to everyone.
Religiously, not that this should even apply with seperation of church and state, but, how about treating others as you would have them treat you, it is total hypocrisy to use the bible to condem homosexuality when there are dozens, if not hundreds of other "prohibitions" in the bible that are no longer considered valid, (mixed fabrics, food bans, haircuts to name a few) if you are going to pick and choose, choose loving and sharing. How would you feel if you were told you could not marry the person you love?

You don't know anything about separation of church and state, the bible, and what is or isn't considered prohibitions contained therein. It's not only the religious groups that are against gay marriage, maybe you should stop condemning religion just because your not getting your way on this one issue.
