EUGENE, Ore. -- Crime appears to be on the upswing in the Santa Clara area in Eugene.
Eugene Police and the Lane County Sheriff's Office say there have been five burglaries in the area in the last week-and-a-half alone. A Chevron gas station, a pet supply store and a liquor store have all become targets of burglaries.
Surveillance video at Jesse Bolander's liquor store show more than one person peering through the front doors in the early morning hours of October 31, then returning at about 4:30 the next morning to carry out a smash-and-grab plan. One of the suspects throws a rock against the front door window, but the window doesn't break. The suspects carried on with their attempt, despite there being several signs on the outside, warning that they are under surveillance.
Police won't confirm whether any or all of the River Road area robberies are connected, but they are looking for anyone with information to contact investigators in the hopes of keeping this from happening again.
