EUGENE, Ore. -- The Eugene Police Department reports a record number of calls for service came in on Friday night as part of their proactive patrols.
EPD says there were 242 calls for service between the hours of 9 pm and 3 am. The number is consistent with last year's figure of 241 calls, but is more than double that of 2007's number of 104 calls.
The majority of citations and charges issued on Friday night were alcohol-related, including 116 for Minor in Possession, 90 for Open Container and 5 for Furnishing Alcohol to Minors.
The patrols were deemed a success with no reported riots.

the other side of the story
As being a u of o student that witnessed the post game aftermath on campus, the students were not the ones "swarming" the streets. My self and other students felt like we were in some sort of concentration camp; many student's questioning, "Is this the holocaust?" At one point, there were at least four police vehicles, eight bike cops, and a S.W.A.T vehicle marched down the street forcing students to clump together causing more pandemonium than before they had arrived. Of course there were more citations because there were always, at least, four cops within feet. Additionally, i heard from one student that cops were giving out tickets for not crossing the street in a ninety degree angle. Other news sources saying there were a mere thirty on patrol is quite the understatement. My friends and I had not drank anything and simply were going to dance parties with no alcohol. However, we never made it. Instead, like most other students, we walked around the entire night unable to enjoy our halloween. I'm shocked their weren't any riots caused by the strict enforcements of police.
