EUGENE, Ore.-- A former Cottage Grove police officer under investigation for possessing child pornography plead guilty in federal court Wednesday.
Kim Scott Graham admitted to one count of possessing more than 600 images of minor engaged in sexually explicit acts, some which included sadistic acts, and children under the age of 12.
The maximum penalty is 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and five years of post-prison supervision.
Graham went on administrative leave in early March 2009 after FBI agents allegedly found child pornographic images on his home computer. He later resigned.
Police Chief Mike Grover says Graham's actions have no reflection on the entire department: "It's a black eye for Scott Graham, it's not a black eye for the police department. We didn't know anything about it. We don't take care of what people do on their own time. We don't get that involved. He did a good job while he was here, however, we just don't know what he does on his off-duty time."
Graham is now released until his sentencing on January 20, 2010, but he will have no contact with anyone under the age of 18 except for family members.
Residents say they're glad Graham confessed to the crime, but still can't believe an officer of the law was involved in something like that. "I tell all my children, every one of them that the police are good people, go to them when there's a problem and then this came about, " says Tara Hughart.
