Patient Files Lawsuit against Oregon State Hospital

By Sabina Rosu-Urdes

SALEM, Ore. -- Oregon State Hospital is facing a $7,500 lawsuit from a patient who claims the psychiatric facility was neglectful of a female employee having sex with his roommate last year.

David Denichenko, 41, is scheduled to present his case to a Marion County judge Thursday, by telephone from the state hospital.

Following an investigation into the case by the Oregon State Police, the worker accused of having sex with Denichenko's roommate pleaded guilty and resigned in April. Anne Butler, a psychiatric ward clerk at OHS, was sentenced to three years probation for custodial sexual misconduct and supplying a cellphone, which is considered contraband, to the patient.

According to records, no less than four other hospital employees have quit or been fired for sexual misconduct with patients since the U.S. Department of Justice started its investigation into hospital conditions in June 2006. The federal investigation has not been resolved.
