EUGENE, Ore. -- The U of O and OSU rugby teams squared off Saturday in a civil war game.

The Beavers were in Duck territory, slipping and sliding all around the field in the pouring rain. It was the Ducks' first league game of the season, but it was the Beavers who were triumphant, 27 to 15. Both teams are part of a shift in collegiate sports as rugby becomes more popular here in the US.

Also at the game, a collection for Food for Lane County. The first 50 people to donate at least five cans of food received a free Nike rugby t-shirt. Despite that rain, more than 400 pounds of food were collected.
