LEABURG, Ore. -- The Memorial Day weekend brought out lots of recreational boaters to Leaburg Lake, but few adults were seen wearing life vests. That's surprising to local merchants because many are participating in the McKenzie Fire and Rescue "Life Jacket Lending Program."
Life vests are available daily free of charge in many sizes at local stores, including the Vida Market. It works on the honor system and is designed to cut down on the number of unnecessary drownings.
