It may be green, but the

It may be green, but the requirements from the city of Eugene requires that PediCab owners and drivers be licensed with a DRIVER'S LICENSE in order to do business as a PediCab in this city, which I feel the city of Eugene would actually be discriminating against those who do not have a drivers license or those with a disability from owning or operating such a legimate business like, like PediCabs. I've been a longtime bicycle commuter in this city and have no drivers license and see no problem with such an endeavor of owning such a business, but requiring one to have a driver's license for a pedicab would actually mean that the city would be requiring that everyone in the city of Eugene, that rides a bicycle to have a drivers license before they could even ride their own bicycle.

The requirement is such a joke, I thought I found the perfect oppurtunity to start one of these myself, but, only to get shot down by the city requirement of having a drivers license for this business - it actually drives those away from operating such legimate business, when you already have the means to handle a bicycle properly. Shame on the city of Eugene for discourging those with such a requirement and those with a disability like mine.

Drivers License

I managed Cascadia Cabs and did this wonderful little interview. I would like to clarify the drivers license requirement issue. The two reasons we were required to have a drivers license is because of insurance and the fact that we as a business operated registered(yes just like your vehicle registration) passenger carrying vehicles on the streets following the same rules that apply to motor vehicles.

Transporting people is a huge liability. It has absolutely nothing to do with an individuals ability to ride his or her bicycle. It isn't about discrimination against anyone with disabilities. Its about having competent safe operators on the streets at all times.

Eugene is wise to implement such a requirement. Would anyone want unlicensed taxi drivers transporting people around with no accountability, same principal applies. Sorry to burst your bubble Jeff the requirement is not a joke. It keeps people from getting hurt and holds operators accountable for the lives and safety of the passengers.

I don't know what your disability is, I am sorry you are disabled. It is a very physically demanding job and you must be mentally quick and alert. It is a legitimate business with legitimate business requirements, that's the bottom line.
