EUGENE, Ore. -- Though it's been more than 10 years since the shooting at Thurston High School, the dark memories of that day in 1998 linger in Lane County. Yet, something positive grew out of that event: the local Million Mom March. The first one in 2000 filled the Washington Mall and lived up to its billing. But for the past 10 years, concerned citizens and devoted moms have come together in Eugene on Mother's Day to promote the safety of children -- and the community -- by advocating for sensible gun ownership.
