EUGENE, Ore. -- Finding a good doctor or hospital in Oregon just got a little easier. A new website was launched to show how Oregon hospitals ranks quality of care in the state's health care facilities.
The Portland-based Oregon Health Care Quality Corporation tries to measure and improve the quality of health care in the state. Executive Director Nancy Clarke says the website, Partner for Quality Care, provides information about care in specific regions.
It has tips and guidelines for patients to ensure they get the care they deserve. The group measures all clinics with four or more providers. Clarke says they look at bills from insurers and compare them with others to get their results.
"The assumption is that it's all equal and it's not, so we try to motivate improvement by assessing quality and helping everybody agree what quality should be and try to motivate change," she said.
Local hospitals in the Willamette Valley seem to fare well according to the website. Sacred Heart at RiverBend and McKenzie-Willamette both scored a 95%, while Corvallis' Good Samaritan Medical Center received 90%.
Clarke says the process isn't perfect and they'd like to get more specific information, like physician friendliness. But for patients, it's a good starting point.
