ARRESTED: Destiny Goddard

By Holly Menino

EUGENE, Ore. -- A Lane County woman has already been found guilty of several crimes, but when her sentencing day came she didn't show up.

Her victims are still without closure and are left with a long list of questions.

On April 12th, Jessica Simpson, 18, waited in a Lane County courtroom to find out how long Destiny Goddard, 23, would spend behind bars.

"I kind of wanted to see the face who had stolen my stuff," said Simpson. "When she didn't show up. It was sort of disheartening, because we had gone through all this trouble and got nothing for it."

Simpson says Goddard stole her purse at the LTD bus station in downtown Eugene.

A couple months later when police arrested Goddard, they found Simpson's military ID. Before Goddard could be sentenced for several crimes she'd committed, the Lane County Jail released her due to overcrowding.

"She's a repeat property offender who will very much most likely offend again and again and again until she actually has to spend some time in prison and get cleaned and get rehabilitated," said Eugene Police Detective Patrick Willis.

Willis says Goddard is a known meth user and needs help.

"You can see from her first booking photos that she looks like she is fairly healthy," he said.

Her first mug shot, taken in 2006, was for a number of small thefts. In 2009, she picked up burglary and theft charges. From there her criminal activity landed her drug charges as well as charges of forgery and ID theft. As her crimes escalated, so did her drug use as was evident by her changing appearance.

"In the end she looks like a commercial for why not to do methamphetamine. She looks like she's crying out for help," said Willis.

Help and prison time are two things that Goddard seems to be running from. For Simpson, not only would she like to see Goddard held accountable for her crimes, but she also has questions that she wants answered.

"I just wanted to ask why and what put her in that situation that she would feel the need to do that," said Simpson.

Destiny Goddard's last listed address was in Cottage Grove, but she has friends in Eugene. Police believe she's likely couch surfing somewhere around Lane County.
