SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Car thieves are keeping Springfield Police busy. They know where to look, what to steal and how to take it.
It seems like a never-ending problem for police. "They range anywhere from River Road in Eugene to Gateway, Wal-Mart's all through Eugene and Springfield," said Larry Turner, Springfield Police Department Detective.
All of a sudden that problem seems to be getting worse. Springfield Police say they've seen a rash of car thefts lately. "They typically take the vehicle within a day they drop it off somewhere and grab another one. It's becoming a major problem within the Eugene/Springfield area," said Turner.
Putting a stop to that major problem starts by getting the key players off the streets and placing them behind bars. "We feel at this point one of those key players is Tafili Lamb," said Turner.
Tafili Lamb, known to many as Fili is wanted by Springfield Police in connection to several stolen vehicles throughout Eugene and Springfield.
Police say car thieves like lamb are experienced, they know where to look, what cars to target and how to get in. "They use a shaved key basically it's an old key, shave it down and that fits in the doors and the ignition of anybody's car so it's really easy to take a car," said Turner.
Vehicle thefts are an ongoing problem for police. As the ring leaders are arrested, other car thieves step up and take their place continuing the cycle and keeping officers on their toes.
Springfield Police say the best they can do is to stay one step ahead of the thieves.
If you know where Tafili Lamb is call the Crimestoppers line at 1-877-876-tips. You could earn up to a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
