SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Springfield Police are still looking for the man that lead them on a pursuit earlier this week. Detectives say 29-year-old Travis Lewis is also suspected of breaking into several cars.
Springfield Police say Gateway Mall security saw Lewis and his girlfriend 28-year-old Lisa Whitman breaking into a car in the parking lot.
"As police were responding, the subject got into the car, was able to start it up, and literally as the police were driving into the parking lot the car began to drive away." said Springfield Police Detective George Crolly.
Officers chased Lewis as he zig zagged out of the Gateway Mall area. He turned left onto Harlow Road heading towards Guy Lee Elementary School where he turned right at Hartman Lane. As police continued to pursue him, Lewis took an unexpected turn right into Guy Lee Park. Police followed as he circled the ball fields.
When Lewis got to a pedestrian bridge, he drove right over it. Police stopped their cars and started chasing Lewis on foot. His car eventually got stuck in the mud, and he managed to get away from police on foot.
Police arrested Whitman in the Gateway Mall parking lot. Investigators say the car she and Lewis drove to the mall was a stolen Acura. Lewis is suspected of stealing and breaking into other cars as well.
"In addition to physical evidence, we have surveillance footage of him involved in other vechicle thefts in Springfield and Eugene, four actually." said Det. Crolly.
Those four include a Walmart store, Gateway Mall, Valley River Center and an apartment complex in Eugene.
Police believe Lewis knows he's in trouble and because of that they don't think he'll stop committing crimes anytime soon. If you know where Travis Lewis is, call the Crimestoppers line at 1-877-876-TIPS. You could earn up to a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
