Springfield police are looking for a woman they say scammed four people through Craigslist and got away with thousands of dollars.
One woman responded to one of Katie Prior's Craigslist post advertising a Thurston duplex for rent at $500 a month. Though it seemed too good to be true, the woman met Prior at the duplex for a tour. She filled out a rental contract with personal information and was given a receipt, even a key to the duplex. The only stipulation was that she couldn't move in until the weekend.
But when move-in day came, the woman who made the agreement with Prior wasn't alone. Three other people also went to the duplex, all expecting to move in. It turns out, according to the building owner, that Prior was being evicted from the duplex, after being several months behind on her own rent.
Prior was last known to be with her boyfriend, Aaron Adams, and her two children in San Diego. Police say Child Protective Services picked up Prior's two children in California in September and brought them back to Oregon. Prior's mother, who lives in Washington, told police she hasn't heard anything from her daughter.
Katie Prior also goes by the last name of Brisendine. If you know where she is, call the Crimestoppers line at 1-800-3-DETECT. You could earn up to a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
